Dangers of Scuba Diving

Believe it or not, the sharks and other fish that swim around you as you dive have very little to do with the danger of scuba diving. Read this brief guide before descending into the deep.

Divers hardly ever die from a shark or fish bite, but they do die from being trained poorly. If a diver has not been trained to ascend to the top of the water properly, they can contract a condition known as the bends. The bends happen when a diver rises to the surface rapidly causing this decompression sickness that can result in death. You should never dive alone, and you should always be certain that your equipment is properly functioning prior to any dive.  While this is the most serious danger of scuba diving, there are other problems that can occur.

Most of the complaints that people speak about after diving include ear and sinus problems. If someone goes through a middle ear pain that is known as the “squeeze” this can be incredibly uncomfortable. Otherwise, some people wind up with cuts and scrapes that can happen from brush-ins with fish and reefs. In order to avoid any kind of trouble, make sure that you equalize your ears and mask before going into the water; don’t hold your breath while ascending; dive with a partner; do not drink any alcohol before diving; and talk to your doctor about any medical condition prior to diving.

If you want to learn how to dive, it is not advisable that you wait until you are on vacation. While some dive schools that can be found in the islands are reputable, a lot of them will not take the time to explain things correctly. Instead, contact a diving school before you leave home in order to learn the right steps. The biggest danger of scuba diving is a person that has not been trained properly. Be sure that you have all the moves down before you attempt to go out on your own.

In the end, those people that wind up injured are often careless. Most scuba accidents can be avoided if you make sure that you know what you are doing. If not, take another less until you fully comprehend what’s going on around you.

Avoiding the danger of scuba diving is easy to do. Keep your wits about you while diving, never rush to the top of the water, and always train properly before jumping into any ocean.
