Scuba Diving in New Zealand

Most divers know that scuba diving in New Zealand is some of the best in the world. Smack in the middle of the equator and the South Pole, these waters are just waiting to be explored.

There are literally hundreds of great spots that scuba diving in New Zealand can offer all divers. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this portion of the world is bound to have something in store for you. Depending upon where your travels take you, you will find some great reefs, marine life, and other types of underwater spots that you can easily investigate. If you are going to book with a diving tour company, make sure to do so in advance. This way, you can be sure that you will have a great trip that has been planned out ahead of time.

The Northland section of New Zealand is extremely popular, since this area boasts many great dive spots. The Karikari Peninsula makes a great first stop if you take a boat to Matai Bay or to Tokerau Beach. You will find lots of rocky reefs within this area that are home to maomao, kingfish, and demoiselles. Additionally, Whangaroa Bay is perfect if you can find a boat to take you to Mahinepua Bay, Tauranga Bay, Taupo Bay, or any other bay in the region. Flat Island is great for some light snorkeling if you enjoy exploring the waters through this easy going method.

The East Coast section is largely unexplored, though it does offer quite a bit of great diving. You will find lots of sandy beaches, plenty of gorgeous mountains, and some fantastic waters. Additionally, there are plenty of dive shops throughout the area that will be able to provide you with all the gear that you need. The most popular spot within this region is Lottin Point, but you can find lots of other great spots if you ask the right dive company. Do a bit of research prior to heading out to a spot within this area…often, the best spots are known only to locals. Scuba diving in New Zealand is simply divine no matter where you go.



This part of the world is a divers’ paradise. Filled with gorgeous landscapes, warm waters, and interesting marine life, you just can’t get any better than New Zealand.
