Scuba Diving Key Largo

Scuba diving Key Largo should be on your to-dive list if you are a serious diver. Boasting some of the best sites in the country, this large mass of land will be yours to explore on your next dive trip.

Why is scuba diving Key Largo such a big deal? This area happens to be the largest isle within the Florida Keys. Divers will delight in knowing that there are six Sanctuary Preservation Areas within this portion of the Keys. As far as popular spots go, you will discover that there are actually a lot of them. Some divers love the Statue of Christ of the Abyss that is also known to locals as the Christ of the Deep. Others love to explore the numerous wrecks that have made permanent homes beneath the ocean waters.

The Molasses Reef and the French Reef are both well known spots that are perfect for viewing aquatic life. In particular, Molasses Reef is also known as one of the most popular diving sites within the entire world thanks to the abundance of ocean life that calls this reef home. The reef itself reaches a depth of fifty-five feet, and thanks to the Gulf Stream visibility within this area is top notch. Do you want to explore some sunken ships? Well, if treasure is what you’re after the Bibb and Duane ships are two spots you won’t want to miss.

The Bibb and Duane are two 327 foot US Coast Guard cutters that were sunk in 1987. These ships can be found within The Elbow Reef, which is just one mile south of Molasses Reef. You will also discover the USS Spiegel Grove that was sunk in 2002 along with the Norwegian ship the Benwood Wreck that sank during World War II.  From colorful reefs to amazing aquatic life to lots of sunken ships, scuba diving Key Largo is a true treat. Those that have not had the chance to dive before will find lots of dive shops servicing the area along with plenty of dive courses.

Those that are a bit wary of diving should really take the time to learn while on vacation. Even if you aren’t into diving into the deep, you might still enjoy snorkeling along the various areas that Key Largo has to offer.

There are lots of things awaiting you within the Florida Keys. If you happen to be heading down south, make sure to book a scuba diving Key Largo trip.
